The reason why I write this post because I feel very DISAPPOINTED with student organisation, who ethically should encourage students to spend their time well by studying or doing something beneficial for their career or future, BUT instead organising something worthless like this. I cannot imagine how video games or something like this could make our government-sponsored students better in anyway, except wasting their precious time which should be used to prepare for tutorials/studying, or use to improve their soft skills to prepare for tough interviews to get decent jobs etc.
I’m saying this because I’m concern. I’ve seen over the years students failed their exams because of video game addiction, missed their classes, have poor soft skills, lack of confidence, low self esteem and many others.
As a student organisation (or an organisation representing students), one should focus on surveying what the students lack and organises events/programs to complement these weaknesses/needs.
These students are precious treasures to our country. The taxpayers have spent tremendous amount of money to sponsor these students over the years. If we want to build a better Malaysia, we MUST stop spoiling our students.

1. Following the success of our country’s very own Team Fnatic who came out at fourth place in last year’s Dota 2 World Championship, Malaysia has recently announced the establishment of an eSports Academy in hopes of training and nurturing passionate gamers into world-class talents.
p/s: Team Fnatic won USD$1.4 million (RM5.6 million) worth of prize money

2. “Playing games is bad for your brain….” MASA would like to give a fact-check on this as we believe that gamers tend to have better memory as compared to their bookworm friends. Studying head-on can be dry so why not play some games to make your syllabus relatable?
?
3. Did you know that playing Dota actually improves your cognitive thinking skills? Not everyone can understand the beauty of denying a creep before your enemy does. Can your friends solo a lane as well as you can? Can they time an ulti as well as you can? Strategic thinking and fast reflexes do come in handy in-game and real life.
4. It can definitely aid you in decision-making, something we do everyday. Games are filled with moral dilemmas that make you weigh the pros and cons, especially strategy games like Dota.
